That, apparently, was a myth. A unicorn. Something women whispered about but had accepted would never actually exist.
I was one of those women.
I Needed Something That Didn't Exist
When perimenopause hit, my body changed in ways I wasn't prepared for. Weight gain that seemed to appear overnight - particularly around my middle. Hot flushes that arrived without warning and left me drenched. And periods. Seriously heavy, bleed-through-everything, cancel-your-plans periods that made me dread getting dressed in the morning.
I tried everything. Shapewear that compressed but made hot flushes unbearable. Period underwear that offered zero smoothing and looked nothing like shapewear. Products that claimed to do both but delivered on neither.
I wasn't asking for much. I just wanted something that could hold everything in, handle a heavy period, not make me overheat, and actually stay in place through a full day. Something I could wear under a dress to a work event on Day 2 of my cycle without a single worry.
It didn't exist.
So I decided to build it.
What the Unicorn Actually Needed to Do
When I sat down to design Calm Curve, I made a list of every problem I'd experienced and every compromise I'd been forced to make. The collection had to solve all of it - not most of it. All of it.
That meant:
Three absorbency levels - because not every day is the same. Light days, moderate days, and the heavy days that used to derail everything. The Aphrodite handles super heavy flow. Oshun and Freya cover the lighter end of the spectrum. Every woman, every day of her cycle, covered.
Fabric that supports without overheating - each piece in the collection uses different fabric with different compression levels, specifically chosen so you're not trapped in a sweat box when a hot flush arrives. This was non-negotiable for me.
A hook and eye enclosure on the Aphrodite - because shapewear that shifts and bunches throughout the day is worse than wearing nothing. The Aphrodite stays exactly where you put it.
Soft fabric covering the flexible bones - because comfort isn't a luxury. If it's not comfortable, you won't wear it. And if you won't wear it, it doesn't matter how good it looks.
Front zips - because getting dressed shouldn't be a workout on your hardest days. On the days when your body is already asking a lot of you, the last thing you need is a battle with your underwear.
The Thing About Unicorns
People call things unicorns when they've stopped believing they'll find them. When every search has come up empty and they've quietly made peace with the compromise.
I refused to make peace with the compromise. And I'm glad I didn't.
Calm Curve exists because I was frustrated enough - and stubborn enough - to build the thing I couldn't find. Every design decision, every fabric choice, every absorbency level was made by a woman who had lived the problem and was done settling for almost.
